America The Beautiful

Happy Birthday America!! I think this song says it all. It makes me cry just singing it. I feel so blessed to live in this great county.

Oh beautiful, for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.

Oh beautiful, for pilgrims' feet Whose stern, impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat Across the wilderness!
America! America! God mend thine ev'ry flaw;
Confirm thy soul in self control, thy liberty in law!

Oh beautiful, for heroes proved In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved And mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine,
'Til all success be nobleness, and ev'ry gain divine!

Oh beautiful, for patriot dream That sees beyond the years,
Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood, from sea to shining sea!

I love that song too. I hope you had a fabulous 4th of July! I read somewhere that San Diego has one of the best fireworks displays in the nation... did you go??

Those are the most inspiring words. I also like the second and third verses of The Star Spangled Banner.

Melissa, I think that they have great fireworks down by the bay in San Diego and by Sea World, but no we didn't go. We actually went east to a friend's house and watched the local high school fireworks. It was still fun.

Scribbit, we sang the Star Spangled Banner in church on Sunday and for some reason the second and third verses hit me much strongly than they ever have before and I was choking back the tears then too.
