Christmas Meme

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper.

2. Real tree or artificial? I grew up with only real trees. To even say "artificial" was blaspheme. The first few years of our marriage I insisted on getting a real tree and loved it. Last year my mom offered a huge fake tree for us to use from her work and since I didn't want to spend money on a tree I said yes. We had to give it back then, but a month or so ago she gave it to us for good!

3. When do you put up the tree? Right after Thanksgiving! We got home on Sunday and by Sunday night the tree was up and decorated!

4. When do you take the tree down? Between Christmas and New Years. Since this tree is huge I can only handle it in our apartment for too long.

5. Which do you prefer: Hot chocolate. In fact, I might just go get some right now. Yum!

6. Favorite gift received as a child? The only thing I can think of right now is the banana-seat bike I got when I was about 6. LOL

7. Do you have a nativity scene? 2 of them.

8. Hardest person to buy for? Spencer's parents

9. Easiest person to buy for? Rachel

10. Worst Christmas gift ever received? A package of 3 fruit cakes. Does anyone need more than one? Or one for that matter??

11. Mail or email Christmas card? We've done both. This year I actually got photo Christmas cards and mailed them today. I am so on it! :)

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? The Christmas Story--can't get anymore classic than that. Elf is a close second.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? About November when I realize I don't have much time left!

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? See #10. We gave it to my Dad as a gag gift

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Uhhhh, food. LOL I don't know...I really love all the Christmas desserts and foods. I can't think of anything specific.

16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Clear

17. Favorite Christmas song? Sorry I'm lame. I can't pick just one. I love them all.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? I like to stay home. We usually go to LA on Christmas Eve but I try to make Christmas Day just our family. I don't want to drive too far.

19. Can you name Santa's reindeer? Yep - Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blizten and Rudolph

20. Do you have an Angel on top or a star? A star. I just bought it the other day!

Go ahead and do this if you want. Consider yourself tagged!

I'm home!

So we left Arizona on Saturday morning and drove to my sister's house in Palm Springs. We spent the night there and watched my nephew be blessed and then we drove home yesterday after Sacrament. It was so nice to sleep in my own bed last night! I know Rachel's glad about it too. On Saturday night we stayed in a hotel and she says, "I don't want to sleep here. I want to sleep in my bed." I felt so bad for her.

The trip home was uneventful and like I said it's so good to be back! I didn't waste any time and got our Christmas tree out and decorated it last night. Bring on Christmas!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I wanted to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving and I hope you get to spend it with your family or loved ones. This year my heart is brimming with thanks. I haven't seen Spencer in two weeks so I'm so happy that he's coming today. Looking back, this year has had it's trials, but surprisingly I'm glad that I went through what I did. I really have much in my life. I have a place to live, a wonderful family and food to eat. I don't think it's coincidence that Thanksgiving comes right before Christmas because when we think of how blessed we are and how much we have, I think it makes us want to share that with others and give to people.

Briefly, I am thankful for my life, my family, and my testimony of the restored gospel. What are you thankful for?

Back to normal

Well I'm happy to say that I found my happy place yesterday. Thursday was just a crappy day in all respects. Yesterday my youngest niece went to school so it was just Rachel and I for the morning (except for another sick niece but she's old enough to leave at home). I finally got to really leave the house and do some errands. It was nice to get out and have my happy kid all to myself.

We didn't do much, just went to Target and bought some food and things, but it made such a difference in my mood. I do not do well when I am cooped up in the house all day--especially when it's not my house. While here I have been making more purses, but I ran out of fabric and because of all the sickies I haven't had the chance to go to Joann's--or anywhere for that matter.
Today I am going to attempt to take the kids to the Science Center here so we'll see how that goes. My niece who was sick yesterday just woke up and said she feels mostly better so hopefully she'll continue to improve. She's eating so that's a good sign. This stomach flu has really made it's way through the family. There are two other kids that have yet to have it so I just pray it takes a day or so-or never-before another kid gets it.

I really am blessed though. It's amazing how one down day can really make me remember
and realize all the things that I have.

A public service announcement for my friends

Spencer and I have friends, Danny and Erin Packard, who are excited for an opportunity and blessing to adopt a child. We know them very well; they are a kind, fun-loving, and family-oriented couple who will be wonderful parents.

Recently they attended an adoption information fair, which emphasized the importance of letting others know of their desire to become parents. This is where all of us can help. If you know of anyone who is considering finding adoptive parents, will you please share Danny and Erin's on-line profile link below. Also, if you would be willing to post this on your blog or forward it to all your friends, they would be very grateful.

Anyone in the United States can view their profile on-line at www.itsaboutlove.com. Click on 'search adoption profile' and search by their profile name, 'DanielandErin.'

Oh the Joy!

I just found out this morning that our downstairs neighbors are moving! Hooray! These are seriously the worst neighbors I have ever had.

It all started last October. We have this girl who screams so loud about once a week--usually between the hours of 9 and 10pm. She slams doors and yells at her mom and brothers like no one I have ever seen. We've complained a number of times and because this girl is 13 years old they were trying to help her with her behavior. I get that. She was actually really good for a while, then once school started so did the screaming. We affectionately call her the Banshee.

Around the beginning of the year we started smelling sweet smoke coming from the windows downstairs too. The boys were smoking weed. On my birthday in September we had some friends over and when we opened the door a number of them asked us, "Is someone smoking pot out there?" That's when you know it's obvious.

So between the regular smoking, the weed and the screaming I am jumping for joy that these people are no longer going to live below me. Today is a great day!

Cute Bag

A couple weeks ago I saw a post on Tracy M's blog about making homemade bags. She said it was super easy so I printed out the pattern to try. Last night I dragged Rachel to the fabric store and picked out some cute fabrics.

I have to admit it took me a lot longer to do this than I thought because it was hard for me to visualize how to make it, but I'm so happy with the end result! Now that I've made one and know what it is that I'm making I'm sure the next few won't take me as long.

I'm a little late getting to this but here are some pictures from Halloween. Rachel got sick and was throwing up so we didn't go out trick or treating, but she got some candy at the ward Trunk or Treat on Saturday. She had a great time dressed as a duck and following around a big giant chicken! Spencer went as a Caddy and I didn't get into the mood this year to dress up...maybe next year.
