4 People's voice or 4 million people's voice?

Because I'm Lazy

I've gotten a few awards lately so here they are. I'm totally lame at putting these on my blog but I wanted to say thanks to those that have given them to me! Feel free to snag them!

From madhousewife: This blog invests and believes, the proximity. [meaning, that blogging makes us 'close' -being close through proxy]. They all are charmed with the blogs, where in the majority of its aims are to show the marvels and to do friendship; there are persons who are not interested when we give them a prize, and then they help to cut these bows; do we want that they are cut, or that they propagate? Then let’s try to give more attention to them! So with this prize we must deliver it to 8 bloggers that in turn must make the same thing and put this text.
--Just a note, I have no idea what the heck this means...:)

This one's from Cheryl

And this one is from Shauna

And because I'm even more lazy, I've been tagged a couple times. Here they are.
This one's from my old college roommate at BYU-H, Maile:

Here are the rules:
1. Link the person who tagged you.
2. Mention rules on your blog.
3. Tell about 6 quirks of yours.
4. Tag 6 fellow bloggers to do the same.
5. Leave a comment to let them know.

1. I hate my toenails long. As soon as they get long enough to where I can feel them they get cut. I would rather do my own toenails then get a pedicure because those ladies never cut them short enough for my liking.

2. I have a very defined routine in the shower. If I waver from this at all I'm liable to forget things. First I shampoo my hair. Then I wash my face, then my body. Then lastly I condition. Has to be that way.

3. When I'm talking about something I usually makes sound effects about it. I never realized it but T-Bone makes a big deal out of it every time I do it.

4. I have a crooked mouth when I yawn.

5. I've taken a nap every day for the last 3 weeks. Pure bliss.

6. I get my mail every day. I always thought that was pretty normal but some of my friends don't. They just forget. Not me. If I don't get the mail I worry about whether there were any important letters or anything that I'm missing. Funny thing is we don't get a lot of mail. Same thing with my email. I hate knowing that I have unread messages.

This one is from another BYU-H roommate, Shelley. And no I didn't live with Maile and Shelley at the same time, I just lived with each of them separately.

1 Thing I'm looking forward to:
Relaxing tonight

2 Things on my wish list:
New clothes
Someone to do my laundry for me tomorrow

3 Favorite restaurants:
Mr. Taco
In N Out
Trattoria I Tuilli

4 Things that happened yesterday:
Watched Pushing Daisies
Held Prop 8 signs on a corner
Took a nap
I know there must have been more, but I can't remember

The Office
Pushing Daisies
The Biggest Loser

A little Friday randomness

First and foremost, the Weezer concert? Awe.Some. T-Bone and I had so much fun. They played great songs and I just stood there and sang to them all. About 3/4 of the way through the concert they start playing what sounds like Pink Floyd. Everyone is kind of looking around wondering what is going on when they actually start singing "Time"! It was classic. (Obviously it sounded much better live.) After a couple more songs they left the stage but the lights stayed off so we knew they were coming back. All of a sudden all these people start walking on the stage with random instruments. Turns out there was some radio station contest and a bunch of people won a chance to play on stage with Weezer. They all brought their instruments and then sang Island in the Sun and Beverly Hills. It was pretty sweet. We had seats like 2 rows from the back so it was kind of hard to see everything but we had a blast. Totally worth spending my birthday money on.

Did you know it's the 24th of October? That means it's 2 months until Christmas Eve. Holy Moly.

We went to Bates Nut Farm last weekend to pick a pumpkin. Boogers had a blast. They had a little pony ride and that's all she wanted to do. So we forked over the $4 bucks to ride a pony for 2 minutes but watching her face light up was so worth it. While she was waiting for all the other kids to get on their ponies she was kicking her's to get it going! Of course that started all of them moving so the workers had to stop them! We were cracking up watching her!

Here's a hilarious video of a wedding. Was it yours??

Have you been following everything that has been happening in California lately regarding Prop 8 and same sex marriage? It's a huge deal and something that could change California and possibly the rest of the United States. Cheryl has some great pages with links here, here and here and she doesn't even live in California. We are going sign waving tomorrow to show our support.

I'll be putting a couple more things up on my etsy store in the next day or so, so check them out! Oh and Summer made me a header and an avatar for my store. What do you think?

Our ward is having their trunk or treat tomorrow and Boogers is so excited. She is going to be Belle for Halloween and has been talking about it for months. I got her some play jewelry today to go with her dress and she hasn't taken it off all afternoon. She even asked to sleep with it. I don't know how these girls just suddenly love princesses. We never did anything to encourage this but one of her other friends is going as Belle too and her other one is Cinderella. I hope she has a good time. Pictures to follow!

Have a great weekend!

Happy Birthday to Me!!

Okay so I know my birthday was two weeks ago but I just bought myself the best birthday present ever!

Weezer concert tickets!!!

T-Bone and I are going tomorrow night! Ever since the tour was announced a couple months ago I have been yearning to go. Finances have been kind of tight so we didn't know how we could justify concert tickets so I was kind of resigned to not going. Until today.

I was talking to my friend Stephanie and she said that her husband and her was taking their three boys and the longing to go came even stronger. I was determined to find a way. Then it hit me. You have birthday money!

It didn't take me long to know that that is what I wanted for my birthday! A couple clicks later and bam, we're going to the concert! Thanks Mom and Dad! We're going to have a blast tomorrow!

Standing For Something

A few months ago we learned that judges in California had overturned Prop 22 that was passed by a majority vote back in 2000. This Proposition stated that California will only recognize marriage as being between a man a woman. Due to activist judges this is not the case anymore.

I believe that marriage is only to be between a man and a woman and I am taking a stand on this. When I first heard that my church asked us to take a stand on this issue, I wasn't sure how I felt. I thought that it wouldn't really affect me all that much. Then I decided that if the Prophet asked me to help then I would. I have a testimony that the Prophet is divinely called and can see repercussions that we would not otherwise see.

I also believe that marriage is a divine institution that deserves to be protected.

Then I started to read up on the issue. Here are some basic points from PreservingMarriage.org:
  • Having tolerance without condoning.

We can love someone while still maintaining and advocating our standards and beliefs.
  • Unless Proposition 8 passes, California society will soon undergo a profound change in its basic understanding of marriage and family life.

That will affect everyone in numerous ways. Over time, greater acceptance of nontraditional marriage will be demanded of all people. This could impact the ability of any religion to teach and practice its beliefs.
  • Proposition 8 will not hurt gays.

In California, the law provides for marriage-related benefits to be given to civil unions and domestic partnerships. Proposition 8 does not diminish these benefits.
  • Failure to pass Proposition 8 will hurt children.

If gay marriage remains legal, public schools will put it on equal footing with traditional marriage. Children will likely receive “age appropriate” information about sexual relations within heterosexual and homosexual marriages.
  • Failure to pass Proposition 8 will hurt churches.

The court’s decision will inevitably lead to conflicts with religious liberty and free speech rights. Society will become more and more hostile to traditional beliefs about marriage and family.
Things are already changing. A first grade class took a field trip to a homosexual wedding in San Fransisco already. Umm, we never went on a field trip to a heterosexual wedding. The schools have no business doing this. I want to be able to teach my children what is right and wrong without them being confused by what is taught at school. I don't know everything that will happen if this proposition doesn't pass but I do know that it is important.

We have the opportunity as voters in California to make sure that activist judges don't represent California's residents and that our rights will be protected. Please vote yes on Proposition 8 in November and protect marriage and our families. Our future is at stake.

Oh Sticker Chart, How I Love Thee

So some of you may remember my woes and complaints a couple weeks ago about Booger's behavior. I was determined something must be done. She was spending way too much time in time-out and needed something more positive and motivating.

Well let me tell you I found it! Oh blessed day, I found it. I went to the Teacher's supply store down the road and found a sticker chart. All it has is 6 things that she must do every day but it has worked wonders. Wonders I tell you! (I changed one since we don't really make our beds around here.)

We started it last week and she grasped onto the concept right away. We told her that if she got all her stickers then she could get a treat at the end of the week. I figured something from the dollar section at Target or a small candy. The first day was magical. Every time she delayed in doing something--mostly it was being a good listener--I would ask her if she wanted her sticker. That set her straight right away. She loves to put her stickers on at the end of each day and eagerly awaits the end of the week.

I really wanted her to get all her stickers the first week so it would be a positive experience and she knew she could achieve it. I gave her lots of chances to do things but I never felt like she was taking advantage of those chances. Also for the first time I noticed that she really felt remorse for things when she did them wrong. She would really feel sorry. I guess when you have something to look forward to you feel worse when you think you might not get it.. This was a great opportunity for me and her to talk about repentance--in a way a 3 year old can comprehend--and forgiveness as well.

Well she did get all her stickers and we went and got her treat on Monday. She was so excited. Now we're on to week 2 and she's still motivated by it. I've had to change one thing with the chances though now. I told her that if she disobeys I will have to put a check mark in her spot and if she gets three then she doesn't get a sticker. That has seemed to hit the spot with her too. "I don't want to get a check mark, Mom." Good answer, I think to myself.

Life has been happy around this household for the last 11 days. I have hardly raised my voice in over a week and I think she's gone into time-out like once or twice. I'm optimistic but also realistic that this may be temporary but I really hope it continues.

It's October

Time for hot weather and Santa Ana's. Let's hope we avoid the fires this year. It's 97 degrees outside so I'm hunkering down in my house and not doing much today. I hope everyone is having a good day!

Did I mention it's 11:30? Yeah it's only going to get hotter.

Birthday Recap and a Question

So my birthday was a week ago. I am now 30 years old and 6 days. It doesn't seem like I should be thirty. I still feel 25. I hope I feel 25 for a while.

Anyway so we had a fun day so here are some of the pictures.

We went to the Viking Festival. T-Bone really wanted to go so we just played along. It was pretty fun though.

Some people really dressed up and Boogers had fun on the inflatable slide.

Boogers got to play the accordion and we took a picture with one of the festival workers.
They also had axe throwing and some fighting demonstrations but we were a little late and didn't get pictures of that.

Then we went to Legoland for the free last hour. It was perfect since there was a light cloud cover. It had been pretty hot during the day so it was nice to have a reprieve.

This didn't happen on my birthday but on Monday we woke up to thunder. We don't get thunder and lighting very often so it was pretty cool to watch. The storm was totally random with one super big dark cloud up against blue sky. We watched it for an hour before it passed us and headed out to sea. The last picture is of the rainbow we saw (in case you can't see it).

And the question...I'm ready to open my etsy store but I need some store name ideas. Anyone? I'll mostly be selling knitted things but am not sure I want to be held into that in case I make different things in the future. I'll give away a free knitted item to you if I use your guess so make them good!
