Weekend in AZ

This weekend we drove to Arizona for our niece's baptism. We decided to only drive to Yuma on Friday night and spend the night instead of trying to drive through the night and get to Phoenix at 1 in the morning. It's a good thing we did because it took us 4 hours just to get to Yuma. 45 minutes on the road we had to stop so Big Sister could go to the bathroom, then 45 more minutes we stopped again for another potty break and 20 minutes after that we stopped again so I could sit in the back with Little Sister who was very sad (I was driving or else I would have just jumped in back). Finally we were on the open road only to stop again in El Centro for some food for the kids. I was dreading the trip already. When we got back on the road it was smooth sailing from there though. We did hit a crazy lightening storm and intense downpour in Yuma however. We stopped at a hotel in the pouring rain and tried to sleep. I don't think I slept until 2 am when I switched beds with T-Bone-who was sleeping with Big Sister-and he didn't get any sleep until about 5 am. Between the kicking of little kids, the waking up of babies and the loud movie the guests next door were playing it was a rough night of sleep. We survived though and got on the road at 7:30 to make it to the baptism by 11. The morning was uneventful--thank heavens--except for giant centipedes on the road! We made great time and even had a chance to side track to see the Gilbert Temple under construction thanks to turns with the DVD player, the iPod and endless snacks.

Our niece's baptism was wonderful and then we went back to T-Bone's brother's house for the after-party. Lots of food, meat and good company. There was another huge storm that rolled in while we were swimming so that was fun and exciting. And now for the pictures:

The open road
Little Sister with her "big" cousin (he's a month older than she is)
Having fun in the hotel
This centipede was about 6 inches long. There were hundreds of them on the road!
How did we ever travel without DVD players?

After the weekend of 95 degree weather with 80% humidity it was wonderful to get home to 75 degrees and breezy. Oh how I love my San Diego!

I hate those hotel nights where you can't sleep... I really hate the window a/c units that flip on and off during the night! Glad you came and we got to see you. LS is such a sweetie pie!
